Fins, Feathers, and Tomatoes
15 August 2013
We went to the lake yesterday. It was the most glorious day yet. We practically had the lake to ourselves. Except for the Heron, the mallards, the fish, and the tomatoes.
The Prince Consort caught a fish! I think that makes six in three summers!!!
We ticked off this heron who did not want to share the coves as TPC boated around in case there was another fish who wanted to throw itself onto the hook. The heron flew ahead, landed, flew ahead, landed . . .
And then we found our tomatoes!!! I know they’re ours! SOMEONE stripped the just ripening tomatoes off our fenced veggie garden, again. I Know it was a raccoon. TPC points out that the lake is seventy plus miles from our house, so … I point out the tomatoes sitting on the shore of the lake. You tell me what mammal takes food to water to wash it? (The little burglar got someone else’s potatoes too!)
The heron may have taken exception to our presence in his coves, but the ducks were waiting for us when we made it back to the marina. They know a bread-toting sucker when they see one!
Kath who is fed up with the raccoon and is putting up Wanted posters.
