So, Apparently Pigs Fly

So, Apparently Pigs Fly
4 June 2013
When I was thirteen, we moved to Tallahassee, FL so Mom could go to grad school at Florida State University while Dad was stationed in Okinawa without dependents.  I hated hot humid Tallahassee. When Dad’s thirteen month tour was over, we moved back to northern Virginia. I swore I’d go back to Tallahassee, or Florida- Never, like  when Pigs fly!
Five years later I was a freshman at FSU. Sigh.
I met The Prince Consort at FSU. After I married my Florida Native and moved to South Florida, I gave birth to my Florida Native daughter and counted the years, waiting for a corporate move out of hot and humid Florida. It came, and I waved a soggy good bye, saying, “See you when Pigs Fly. For Real this time.”
Strap those wings on those pigs, nine years later we transferred to Tallahassee. Still sauna hot in the summer, Tallahassee had grown into one of the most beautiful small cities anywhere. I settled in. This pig had flown home.
After three years we moved. I thought for sure this time my Florida/ Flying Pig days were over. I love it here in the Blue Grass of Kentucky. But this past weekend TPC and I drove down to Tallahassee to watch FSU play in the College World Series regionals. Just a visit. Watch some baseball and sweat in the heat and humidity. Then go home to Kentucky. Right.
TPC grew up in Miami and misses salt water fishing. So between baseball games we cruised to the gulf. It was interesting, but This Pig wasn’t flying back to Florida. At least not until we went to the Wakulla city park on an inlet to the Gulf. There were  pelicans. My favorite all time bird. ARGH!
Kath: who is now officially staying away from the phrase, “When Pigs FLY.”
Isn’t she gorgeous? Here she comes to check out my stale bread hoard.

“The $#%$%^%^ gull got the bread?”

“Seriously, no more bread?”

“That’s it. I’m going back to staring for fish on the dock.”

And here comes her Florida Native.

Clearly she has no interest in going anywhere, flying pigs or not. I know how that is with those Florida Natives.
