Summer Sun Awards

Summer Sun Awards
14 July 2013

Grab anything cool and join me at
         The Summer Sun Awards!
In between trying to keep her character Lady Fury in order and rounding up pirates, the creative and talented writer, Shehanne Moore, created the Summer Sun Awards, and I was nominated by another fantastic author -Janet L Buck AKA Ally Shields
Awakening the Fire (Guardian Witch #1)
Fire Within (Guardian Witch #2)
Burning Both Ends (Guardian Witch #3 coming July 19)
To accept the award, the only requirements are to display the sunny logo, link back to the person who nominated you, and make 8 secret “confessions.”
Ooh. I like secret confessions. How about you?
 1.  Favorite song with summer in the title or the words (give the words)  Dance with me to this one!
I’m gonna raise a fuss, I’m gonna raise a holler
About a workin’ all summer just to try to earn a dollar
Every time I call my baby, and try to get a date
My boss says, “No dice son, you gotta work late”
Sometimes I wonder what I’m a gonna do
But there ain’t no cure for the summertime blues
Well my mom and pop told me, “Son you gotta make some money,
If you want to use the car to go ridin’ next Sunday”
Well I didn’t go to work, told the boss I was sick
“Well you can’t use the car ’cause you didn’t work a lick”
Sometimes I wonder what I’m a gonna do
But there ain’t no cure for the summertime blues
I’m gonna take two weeks, gonna have a fine vacation
I’m gonna take my problem to the United Nations
Well I called my congressman and he said Quote:
“I’d like to help you son but you’re too young to vote”
Sometimes I wonder what I’m a gonna do
But there ain’t no cure for the summertime blues

 2. Favorite book about summer: A Summer of Kings by Han Nolan. I’m not going to give you a summary, summery or not, but just say I’ve read it twice. And there are only a handful of books I’d ever read twice.

3.  Favorite hot summer film: The Elizabeth Taylor/ Paul Newman (Paul was the hot one!) of Cat on a Hot Tin Roof. I need a fan and a tall cool drink on a shady verandah just watching this one.

4. Favorite summer memory: I love the lushness of summer. I’m one happy person when the front woods trees are so flush with leaves that no one can see our house from the road. Like being in our own deer, turkey, bunny, squirrel, birds, raccoon, skunks, and chipmunks paradise. But I Hate heat and humidity.
That said, there was one hot and humid summer memory that was amazing! We camped on Cumberland Island, GA. Gorgeous. Sugar beaches to the Atlantic Ocean were a short boardwalk away from our campsite under the canopy trees.(Ours was a popular site which attracted a huge (at least six feet long)  banana spider who took up residence near our tent as well as a number of lumbering curious amradillos.) One night we watched conservationists release baby sea turtles in the the waves. Another hot afternoon we walked down the island’s central shell road to see wild horses play in the dunes beyond the ruins of an old mansion. As golden as these memories are, I did spend a lot of time obsessing about a large cold drink, mostly ice.

5.  Favorite summer holiday destination:
Favorite summer destination. Hmmm. In the past it was the Inside Passage cruise to Alaska. One drop dead gorgeous part of this world. Oceans, glaciers, rivers, mountains, forests, icebergs, eagles, ravens, ( I want one.) whales, moose ….
But there’s a dream summer destination coming up. The Prince Consort and I are planning a December trip to Antarctica. (December is summer time in Antarctica. My kind of non-hot and sweaty summer 😉 )

6.  What books will be in your suitcase this summer?
Burning Both Ends by Ally Shields, (her cover reveal is coming soon.)
Lowcountry Boil– Susan Boyer,

7.  What’s your likely destination this summer?
Any neighbor who’s left on vacation and needs a house sitter. Our AC gave out nearly two weeks ago, and the #$%$ -AC company can’t come fix it for another two weeks. Remember that bit about how much I hate the heat?
Come to think of it, a new neighbor just built an awesome waterfall and pond feature in front of his house. I bet he could use someone to sit in it to make sure there are no leaks.

8. What hottie would you most like to be sharing the hot days and long nights with this summer?
Well, for Pete’s Sake, don’t tell TPC this, it’ll just go to his head, and then he’ll be impossible, but TPC. I fell in love with TPC at first sight a hundred years ago and nothing’s changed. He’s still the handsomest male God put together. But DO NOT tell him. Really.
OR. If TPC is unavailable, I’d take Mark Harmon in a hubba hubba heartbeat!
Enough of my secrets. Here are my 8 nominations. All have fabulous blogs. Even if it turns out they can’t find time to play Q & A, click over and look around.
